6.1.D. - Page 2
Unlike previous park renovations where existing play equipment had been demolished
and disposed of by the contractor, this project will re -use and re -paint as much of the
existing play structures as possible including replacing unsafe or old parts, and adding
new parts and equipment. This saves on cost and saves filling landfills with additional
debris.
The City has purchased the new play equipment for the toddler play area from Kompan
and the new school age play equipment from Ross Recreation per the California
Multiple Award Schedule (CMAS). The play equipment is listed in the bid documents as
City furnished and contractor installed.
Staff anticipates authorizing construction to begin within 20 days of contract award. It
will be necessary to close the park during the renovation and it is expected that the park
be re- opened for public use by early fall of 2012. The contract time of 195 calendar
days includes 60 days for landscape maintenance. Signage and notices will be sent to
the residents in the area before construction proceeds.
The eleven (11) bids received on February 1, 2012, are summarized below.
Bidder
Total Bid
Calstate Construction, Inc. - Fremont
$249,864.54
Wattis Construction Co., Inc. — San Jose
$244,066.00
Blossom Valley Construction — San Jose
$240,856.50
Robert A.
