Discussion ensued about ways to help students reach the next level of self-
sufficiency. The importance of creating a"space for youth" in the community was
discussed by the policy leaders and possibly finding third party funding sources to
implement innovative ideas. Some Council Members appreciated the data
presented and wanted the collection of such data to continue. Vice Mayor Howard
asked that information be shared about the upcoming General Plan and how this
information from tonight could be captured in that process.
The need to keep students involved and motivated was discussed. It was
suggested that collaborations continue to arise between the various entities
invested in this process. Supervisor Gibson finds it a rarity that all these bodies sit
at the same table and are able to work together towards a common goal. Ms.
Gibson is proud of the role that the County and the City play in providing services
for those in need. This model, she opined, is a legacy left by all those at the table.
Mayor Foust also shared her pride in all the various partnerships the City is
involved with and she listed some of the key departments that play a role e.g.
Police Department, Parks, Recreation and Community Services and City
Manager's.
7:50 PM Consensus approval of RC 2020 priorities
There was consensus that the priorities and shared by Ms. Brown are the correct
ones for this organization.
8:00 PM Thank you and close — Ms. Slocum thanked all those present for
their commitment, investment of time and dedication to Redwood City 2020.
5.
