O.fi -15
and family's benefit. Without a new building, the needs of the community would not be
met adequately and the survival of Redwood City PAL's key programs would be
threatened.
The Redwood City School District has generously offered that land for a new PAL
building at Taft School (Bay Road and Tenth Avenue) alongside a gymnasium recently
constructed by the School District. (A joint use agreement for the buildings would be
drawn up.) A long term lease has been signed by the Redwood City School District and
the Redwood City Police Activities League.
The location is well placed to serve children and youth in the southeast section of
Redwood City, the same area already targeted by PAL. There would be little if any
program duplication in this under - served target section. Other children and teen
services are concentrated elsewhere, such as Boys and Girls Club in the central section
and Red Morton Center being west of El Camino Real.
Capital and Proaram Financina Camoaian
Due to the growth in membership of PAL, and the immense pressures on our young
people, the need to provide a permanent facility has never been greater. Other community groups and Redwood City Parks
and Recreation will also utilize the center for direct community programs.
The end goal is to provide a youth- dedicated facility that is safe, stable, positive, and
educational in supporting youth to become responsible adults who can realize their
potential.
Financina the Proiect
Redwood City PAL has been successful in competing on a limited basis with other private
non - profits for grants from foundations, corporations, service groups, and governments
for programs. A much larger task is at hand. New sources of income totaling
$4,500,000 for the capital campaign must be identified and raised in order to
successfully carryout and complete the capital campaign which has been outlined. We
feel that a portion of the funding will come from local corporate and foundation grants,
but another portion must come from individual donors and other sources of income. We
believe we are on the brink of making much larger differences in juveniles, during their
7
