E3, A Zi <br />students that are habitually late or <br />absent from school, As statistics show, <br />students who are not in school quickly <br />fall behind. We work with families to <br />help children be at school, <br />The third program is the PAL After <br />Hours program consists of counseling <br />and life skills programs for families, <br />boxing and karate proqrams. <br />The counseling program works with <br />individual children, groups and families <br />in a counseling settina to improve each <br />families' home environments. <br />The lifeskills program helps parents <br />learn skills that they need assistance <br />with. These programs can include <br />dental care, nutrition, teen pregnancy <br />prevention, gang awareness, etc. <br />Scott and into karate — boxing <br />Small group <br />Parent in a class <br />SUCCESS STORY — KARATE/i <br />COUNSELING <br />The city allowed PAL to occupy a Capt. Warner <br />building that would eventually be torn <br />down for a new theater project and <br />PAL continue to thrive. As this facility <br />was only temporary, Redwood City PAL <br />continued to look for a place to call <br />home. <br />In 2001(DATE ?), the PAL Board was <br />presented with a wonderful opportunity <br />by the Redwood City School District. <br />The school district offered a piece of <br />land for us to build a PAL Community <br />Center on the Taft School site. <br />The City of Redwood City committed <br />over $300,000 to get the building <br />started and a Major Donor was located <br />through the Redwood City School <br />Disrtict School Board. <br />Jeff Hawkins and Janet Strauss agreed <br />to donate 2,000,000 to begin the <br />project.
