EXHIBIT "A"
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Consultant shall prepare plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for the Brewster Avenue
Bicycle Improvements project in Redwood City.
The proposed project includes installation of bicycle facilities on Brewster Avenue between EI
Camino Real and Alameda de las Pulgas, and on Broadway between Brewster Avenue and EI
Camino Real, a total length of approximately 1.2 miles. The proposed facilities include new
Class II bike lanes along Brewster Avenue between Broadway and Elwood Street and on
Broadway between Brewster Avenue and Arch Street. Along Brewster Avenue between Elwood
Street and Alameda de las Pulgas, pavement markings and bike route signage will be installed
to clearly designate a Class III bi ke route. New bike-sensitive detectors and pavem ent markings
will also be installed at the signalized Brewster Avenue/Broadway intersection. Potential
alternative parking and lane configurations to accommodate bicycles on Broadway between
Arch Street and EI Camino Real and on Brewster Avenue between Broadway and EI Camino
Real, as well as modification of the curb bulb-out at the Broadway/EI Camino Real northwest
corner, are to be investigated, and will be installed if appropriate. The installation of bike lanes,
pavement markings, signage, and bike detectors will promote safety for both bike riders and
vehicle traffic on Brewster Avenue, which along with added convenience for bicyclists, will
encourage more bicycle use in the area.
SCOPE OF WORK
Consultant shall perform the following tasks:
Task 1— Develop Alternative Concepts — Between Broadway/Brewsterand E/ Camino
Real
a. Schedule a meeting with City of Redwood City staff for project kick-off within one week
of Notice to Proceed.
b. Develop conceptual drawings of up to three alternative parking and lane configurations
to accommodate bicycles on Broadway between Arch Street and EI Camino Real and on
Brewster Avenue between Broadway and EI Camino Real.
c. Develop conceptual plans for modification to the curb bulb-out at the northwest corner of
Broadway/El Camino Real. Using the as-built information, Consultant shall determine
the feasibility of modifying the existing bulb-out so that the travel lane can be improved
to accommodate bicycles, including an alternative configuration that would avoid
relocating signal equipm ent.
d. Transmit conceptual alternative drawings to City staff for review and comment.
Consultant shall discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the alternative concepts
with City staff to facilitate selection of preferred alternatives for inclusion in the design
PS&E.
Deliverables: (Due within four weeks of Notice to Proceed)
Conceptual drawings of up to three alternative configurations for Broadway between
Arch Street and EI Camino Real and Brewster Avenue between Broadway and EI
ATTY/AGR/2012.033rf JKM 10
REV:03-29-12 VR
