ABANDONED VEHICLE ABATEMENT PROGRAM

PURPOSE:

The objective of the Abandoned Vehicle Abatement program is the abatement of
abandoned vehicles. C/CAG acts as the San Mateo AVA Service Authority.
Reimbursement is provided to participating agencies through revenues provided from
vehicle registration fees.

BENEFITS:

· Cars Removed from San Mateo County Streets 2,257 (2001 estimate)
· Agency Cost Reimbursement $702,477 (18 Agencies)
· Air Quality Emissions Reduction (Note 1) 18-26 Tons (2001 estimate)

Note 1- Assumptions included: a- 1.1% of the cars abated were towed, destroyed and
operating (295), b- the vehicle was replaced with a newer model and driven the same
number of miles (4000) and c- abated cars were 1975-1981. Based on these assumptions
BAAQMD calculated the emissions reduction.

C/CAG BOARD ROLE:

· Sponsor the program on behalf of the participating local jurisdictions in San
Mateo County.
· Distribute State funding to local jurisdictions participating in the program.
