6.1.1. - Page 1 <br /> RE PO RT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the Cit Mana er <br /> July 9, 2012 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Memorandum of Understanding between the Sequoia Healthcare District and the City of <br /> Redwood City for the PE Plus Program <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Approve by motion, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Sequoia <br /> Healthcare District and the City of Redwood City and authorize the City Manager initiate <br /> developing a full agreement with the Sequoia Healthcare District that will provide <br /> comprehensive physical education curriculum for children in kindergarten through 5th <br /> grade in the Redwood City School District. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> In May 2008, the Redwood City 2020 Coordinating Council adopted the following <br /> community outcomes: <br /> 1. Children, youth and families are safe <br /> 2. Children, youth and families are healthy <br /> 3. Children, youth and families are nurtured in a stable, caring environment <br /> 4. Children and youth are succeeding in school and preparing for responsible <br /> childhood <br /> 5. Public, private and community partners are consistently working together to <br /> support children, youth and families <br /> The City of Redwood City is an active member of Redwood City 2020, and dedicates <br /> resources through the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department; Library <br /> Department, and the Police Department to achieve these outcomes each year where <br /> we serve thousands of youth through a myriad of programs and services. Additionally, <br /> Redwood City 2020 adopted the "Community Youth Development Initiative" (CYDI) <br /> where its vision is: <br /> A vibrant Redwood City and North Fair Oaks community that values and shares <br /> responsibility for the health and well-being of all of our young people. <br /> Further, the City Council developed the following strategic goals in its Strategic <br /> Initiatives, under "Youth" that addresses the health and wellness of our children to: <br />
