Staff will initiate the development of a separate agreement with the RCSD which will formalize the programming provided by PRCS at the schools. Funding by the SHCD will allow PRCS to hire a Physical Education Coordinator, physical education coaches, and supplies and materials so that delivery of the program will be cost neutral to the City. ALTERNATIVES The Council could choose not to sign the MOU thereby foregoing SHCD's award of grant funding. The Council could decide not to enter into an agreement with the RCSD to provide PE instruction in schools. FISCAL IMPACT The Sequoia Healthcare District (SHCD) has agreed to provide grant funds to the City in the amount of $275,000 which will allow the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Department to hire qualified staff, provide program training to staff, and cover costs of equipment and miscellaneous supplies related to the education, instruction, and promotion of the PE Plus program for the first year and up to three years based on SHCD Board approval. It is anticipated that the City will incur the costs associated with personnel recruitment and background checks of those employees hired for the PE Plus program.
