6.1.B. - Page 1 <br /> RE PO RT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the Cit Mana er <br /> July 9, 2012 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Award of Contract — Belmont Slough Maintenance Dredging Project <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Contingent on receipt of all required environmental permits, approve by motion, the <br /> contract documents and award the standard form contract 00520 for the Belmont <br /> Slough Maintenance Dredging Project to the lowest responsible bidder, Aquatic <br /> Environments, Inc. of Concord, for its low bid of $318,691.50 and authorize the City <br /> Manager to increase the contract amount, if necessary, up to 10% of the amount <br /> awarded. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> The Belmont Slough Maintenance Dredging Project is designed to improve the water <br /> quality and serviceability of the Redwood Shores storm drainage system that includes <br /> the lagoons. Silt deposits in the Belmont Slough have accumulated over the years that <br /> prevent the flap gates from opening. Water from the lagoon is unable to discharge into <br /> the slough, creating water quality issues. <br /> ANALYSIS <br /> This project will mitigate the water quality issues by dredging and removing the silt to <br /> allow the flow from the lagoon to discharge into the Belmont Slough. In addition, the two <br /> 60-inch diameter discharge pipelines will be cleaned.
