Approve by motion proposed funding agreements for the Civic Cultural Commission Large Grants for FY 2012-2013. 2.) Adopt a resolution authorizing the Civic Cultural Commission to award small grants during FY 2012-2013 in a total amount not to exceed $6,000. BACKGROUND The Civic Cultural Commission (CCC), on behalf of the City Council, is responsible for supporting and enhancing cultural life in Redwood City. In March 2005, the CCC adopted a Strategic Plan which identified the following priority areas: • the development of downtown as the City's cultural center • the arts both at the elementary and secondary school levels • community building events that celebrate the diversity of our community and support local arts organizations • programs that focus on a senior audience • increased investment in public art • alternative funding sources for the arts The CCC is appropriated funds by the City Council on an annual basis to recommend approving grants to non-profit organizations in the community that support art and cultural activities through the criteria developed by the Commission. A total of $58,896 is available for Fiscal Year 2012-2013 for large grants (over $1,000), small grants (under $1,000), public art grants, and commission sponsored events. ANALYSIS On June 7t", the Civic Cultural Commission (CCC) met to consider large grant funding recommendations for Fiscal Year 2012-2013. The Commission has allocated $33,571 of its budget for large grants and a total of thirteen large grant applications totaling $51,300 were received from local cultural arts organizations. Page 1 of 3
