6.3.A. - Page 2
The criteria for evaluation include:
• Applicants must be based in Redwood City or be requesting funds for a
performance in Redwood City.
• Applicants requesting funds must be non-profit and demonstrate financial
stability. The Commission may request copies of past financial statements (e.g.,
copies of budgets from previous cultural events).
• Funding requested must represent no more than 20% of an applicant's total
annual budget.
A complete and accurate application detailing the proposed project along with
attainable goals, objectives, time frames, and a self evaluation procedure must
be submitted by the established due dates.
• All grant applications must be completed and presented to the Commission by an
official representative of the requesting organization. The Commission reserves
the right to request specific representation during the review/interview process.
• The applicant must first obtain permission for the use and coordinate the time,
date, and specific requirements for the event with the facility owners prior to
applying for Commission funding.
The Commission's recommendations for funding are contained in Attachment 1 of this
report with a brief description of the purpose of each grant request. Attachment 2 is a
listing the grant applicants including some background information about their grant
request.
The Commission would also like to request Council approval to allow awarding grants to
small grant applicants during FY 2012-2013 for a total amount of $6,000. The
Commission receives small grant requests throughout the year. Examples of such
requests: $1,000 grant request from Redwood City Community Theater for the
production of a musical at Carrington Hall; $950 request from Peninsula Celebration
Association to provide funding for musical entertainment at the 4t" of July Festival in
downtown; $300 grant to the Peninsula Hills Women's Club for entertainment at their
annual Thanksgiving Dinner which is free to the public. The authority to approve such
grants and report back to the Council at the end of the year will allow the Commission to
distribute small grants in a timely manner.
ALTERNATIVES
-The Council could choose to modify the funding recommendations made by the Civic
Cultural Commission.
