6.3.A. - Page 5 <br /> ATTACHMENT 2 <br /> BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> LARGE GRANT APPLICANTS FY 12-13 <br /> Ballet America. Ballet America is a community based ballet company for student's ages <br /> 2 and 65. Funds requested are to provide funding for their annual production of "The <br /> Nutcracker" held at the Fox Theater. The production includes two matinees and evening <br /> performance and is part of with the annual Hometown Holiday event held annually on the <br /> first Saturday of December. <br /> Funding Requested: $4,000. Funding Recommended: $2,500. <br /> Broadwav bv the Bav. This is Broadway by the Bay's (BBB) second season at the Fox <br /> Theater and the first year they have applied for a grant from the Commission. BBB has <br /> scheduled four productions of live musical theater during 2012 which will feature a total of <br /> 45 performances bringing people into downtown. Their funding request is to fund <br /> operational costs for their 2012 season. <br /> Funding Requested: $5,000 Funding Recommended: $3,500. <br /> Hometown Holidavs. This annual downtown event was originally developed by the Civic <br /> Cultural Commission many years ago, and is now sponsored by the Downtown Business <br /> Group and the Peninsula Sunrise Rotary Club. It features a children's parade, street fair, <br /> entertainment, snow lot, Santa, a petting zoo and fireworks and is always held on the first <br /> Saturday in December. <br /> Funding Requested: $2,000 Funding Recommended: $2,000. <br /> North Star Academv. North Star Academy features a performing arts program and each <br /> year produces a live Shakespeare drama production which includes 80-100 students ages <br /> 8-13. This year, they will perform "Henry The Fifth" and are looking for funding to help <br /> with production costs. <br /> Funding Requested: $6,000 Funding Recommended: $2,136. <br /> Northern California Bluearass Societv. This group is planning to hold their multi-day <br /> Bluegrass Festival in downtown in January 2013. It will feature music performances and a <br /> film festival featuring bluegrass music documentaries. This grant request is to help with <br /> production costs for the festival. <br /> Funding Requested: $5,000 Funding Recommended: $2,419. <br /> Peninsula Svmphonv. Peninsula Symphony performs four concerts at the Fox Theater <br /> each year. They also offer a "Bridges to Music" (BTM) education program at five Redwood <br /> City schools and will be adding an additional Redwood City School during 2012-2013. BTM <br /> brings Peninsula Symphony musicians into the schools to provide education to more than <br /> 1,200 students. Their grant request will provide funding for production costs for both the <br /> live concerts and the BTM program. <br /> Funding Requested: $5,000 Funding Recommended: $4,000. <br /> Redwood Citv Art Center. The Art Center has proposed to hold "Paint The Town" Art <br /> Festival in downtown on September 9-10, 2012. The first day of the event will feature <br /> artists painting around Redwood City. The second day of event will feature all the art work <br /> painted by the artists as well as other activities. The grant is to help cover production <br /> costs of the event. <br /> Funding Requested: $4,000 Funding Recommended: $2,635. <br /> Attachment 1 Page i of 2 <br />
