8.A. - Page 292 Statement on Finger Avenue Aesthe�,i,� I am a Finger Avenue resident or neighbor,who walks,bicycles or otherwise enjoys the Finger Avenue streetscape. l have seen the pla�s for the McGowan nine-!ot development, and conclude that it wi11 substantially degrade the e�risr�ng visUal character and quality oFthe site and its surroundings. What is impo�•tant aesthetically about my neighbarhood is the semi-rvra� character oF the north side oFFingerAvenue,with many homes set far back from the street.The appearance of large amounts of open space with mature,ald growth trees,provides a striking backdrop to the homes.The contrast bet�vveen the narth side of Finger Avenue and its sauth si�e,with iCs many quafnt,early 20th century bungalows and cottages, is something that's unfque to Redwood Ciry and treasured l�y its residents. Examples aFhow the Finger A►renue Project significantly degrades the aesthetics of our neighborhood a�•e; � Construction of two hon�es with wide two-story facades set bacic tYte minimurn allowable distance fi•nm the street.There are no houses that large set that c]ose to the street anywhere in our neighborhood. • Nowhere else on �fnger Avenue are homes this large plared on]nts this sma�l. * All af the homes are of sirrtilar size and ali two-storq,as opposed to the mix of home sizes and heights that are representative af the north side of Fi�ger Avenue. • Most of these nine homes will be viewable from the public street, There is little open space and the homes are only set back a smail distance from the �iarrow alley that serves them (sorr�e from 3ft- 6ft from the alleyway.] Nowhere in our neighborhood are haUSes sttuated in this fasliion. • A de�elopmEnt this densety packed is incompatible with the p�•esenCe oFlarge matune trees on the site. The eventual loss ofthese trees will be ii•reversit�le. • The breaku�of the north side of Finger Ave,by creating Cwo new intersections, The narrow alleyway built For the development fai�s to integi•ate with Finger Avenue by not t�aving a sidewalk or planting strip against the roa�way. • The ane-way alleyway will require street signs on FingerAve to dit�ect tra�fic, Further compramising the character of tihe north side of the stree� The overatl rnass and scale oF this development is completely out af place in our neighborhoad,out of cha�•acter For the north side of Finger Avenve and it will only lead to further degradation of the unique charactei•and quality of our street.
