I kiave secn the plais for the McGowan nine-lot developient, and
conclude that it will substantially degrade the exisFing visual character and yuality of tle site
and its surraundings.
What is important aesthetically about my neighborrood is the seini-rural character of tke
north side af Finger Avenue, with many homes set far back from the street. The appearance of
large ampunts of open space with mature, ald gipwth trees, proides a striking backarop to
the homes. The contrast between the nordl side af Finger Avenue and its sonth side, witli its
many qnaint, earIy 20`h centUry buYgalows and oottages, is sometlng thaf's nyUe to
Redvvaod City and t•easured by its residents,
Examples of haw the Finger Avenue Project significantly degrades the aesthetics of our
neighborhood are:
• Constructian of two lomes with wide twa-story facades set back tIis minimum
allowable distance from the street. There are no houses that large set tliat close ta the
st•eet anywere in our neighborhood, '
• Nowfiere else oninger Avenue are hornes this large placed on lots this sma.
• All of the hames are of similar siza aad all two-stary, as opposed to ttre mix of home
sizes and haigrts that are representative of the narth side of Finger Av'enue.
Most af these nine homes wil be vzewable from the pvblic street. Thare is li#le aper
space and the homes are only set back a small distance from tlie narrow that serves
them(some fram 3ft—Gft from the alleyway.) Nowhere in our neighborhood are
houses situated in this fashion.
• A develogmsn#this denseIyacked is tncompatibe with the presence of large mature
trces on the site. The eventual loss of these h•ees will be irceversible.
The bxeakup af the north side of Finger Ave. by creating twa new intersections, The
narrow aleyway buit for the develapment fails to integrate witli Finger Avene by not
having a sidewatk nr plating strip against tle a•oadway.
• The one-way aIeyway will require street signs on Finger Ave to airect traffic, further
compramising the character of the north side of the street,
The overali mass and scaIe of this deveopment is completely out of placs in our
neighborfood, out of character for the noriside of'inger Avenue and it will ony[eato
ftrcher degradatian o'the unique character and quality of our strest.
Name t. ` -c1t
Address' J'1 /7/ ,S Date g •o/
d!rld4 // _'/i
`
