Overall participation increased from 51%in 2007-08 to 70%in 2010-11,with a slight decline from 72%in 2009-10. Extended learning has consistently had the highest level of participation of all strategy areas. However, support programs, particularly in the four established community schools, have increased participation levels more than other categories. School-level participation numbers over time are included in Appendix 1A. Extended learning participation was lowest for kindergarten students but higher for the rest of the elementary grades and then lower in middle school. Family engagement also decreases substantially for students in middle school. Support programs had the most consistent participation across grade levels in general, with kindergarten students having the highest participation in support programs.
