( I - I
December 1, 2003
Subject
"Application and Letter of Agency for Custom Work" Agreement with SBC
Recommendation
1. Approve and authorize execution of "Application and Letter of Agency for Custom
Work" Agreement between SBC and the City of Redwood City for expediting the
splicing and "cutover" of SBC telecommunications lines for the Downtown
Underground Parking Facility.
2. Authorize funds from the Downtown Funding Contingency Budget in the amount of
$84,000.00 to pay for this work.
Background
As part of the new Downtown Underground Parking Facility, which extends beneath and
into Middlefield Road, the utilities on Middlefield Road between Winslow Street and
Broadway need to be relocated. Staff has been working closely with PG &E and SBC in
coordinating the relocation of their facilities.
The Developer, BHV Innisfree Ventures I (under the Demolition and Utilities Relocation
Agreement with the City), is in the process of installing new substructures and conduits
for the first phase of this relocation.
The next phase requires SBC to pull, splice, and " cutover" new cables from their
existing system. Due to the forthcoming winter rains, and the desire to keep the overall
"On Broadway" project on schedule, it is necessary to accelerate SBC's work.
SBC has been cooperative in working with the City in reviewing and approving the
design, and has agreed to expedite this work. Under normal working hours, SBC
projected that the work can be completed within 90 calendar days. With the
acceleration, the work can be completed expeditiously within 30 calendar days. It is
anticipated that the work for the substructures and conduits will be substantially
completed by December 1, 2003, and turned over to SBC at that time.
SBC is estimating an additional cost of $84,000 for this acceleration.
