3.12.3 12-volt electric, priming system, Hale oil-less or The Redwood City Fire Department <br /> approved equal, shall be installed for the pump, unless the pump is installed such that the <br /> impeller is flooded when the suction valve is open. <br /> 3.12.4 A valve requiring at least three seconds too fully open shall be installed at each pumps <br /> discharge. <br /> 3.12.5 The pump inlet shall be provided with a metal seacock at a dedicated fire pump sea <br /> chest(s) fitted with a strainer on a leash. The seacock shall be manually operated <br /> 3.12.6 A minimum one-inch circulation valve, located to be readily accessible, and <br /> associated piping shall be provided from the discharge manifold to the fire pump(s) sea chest. <br /> 3.12.7 A relief valve and a thermal protection valve shall be installed in the discharge <br /> manifold. The relief valve shall dump to the pump(s) intake and provide for full capacity of <br /> the pump. <br /> 3.12.8 Each fire pump intake shall be fitted with a pressure gauge on the discharge side of <br /> each pump. Located at the fire control station. <br /> 3.12.9 Piping size and arrangement shall allow maximum access to the machinery, with <br /> minimum friction loss and turbulence in the system. Penetration of watertight deck and <br /> bulkhead structure shall be maintained watertight. <br /> 3.12.10 All piping shall be arranged to drain to the sea chest. <br /> 3.12.11 All fire pumps will be fitted with a valve to allow back flushing with fresh water. <br /> 3.12.12 The fire main shall supply: <br /> 3.12.12 A Two (2)Elkhart Copperhead shall be installed in the piping in a location <br /> readily accessible to the operator of the monitor on the aft deck. The height of the monitor <br /> shall allow the monitor to place a stream on the water within a 30-foot radius circle centered <br /> on the standpipe. <br /> 3.12.12 B Two (2) 2000 GPM Elkhart 8394 monitors, one (1) remotely operated master <br /> stream to be provided by and installed by the contractor on the cabin roof and one (1)manual <br /> monitor for the bow. Piping for the monitor, sized to flow 2000 gpm shall be provided. An <br /> electronic valve requiring at least three seconds opening shall be installed in a location <br /> readily accessible to the crew. 3.12.12 C A riser, minimum 5-inch diameter shall be provided <br /> on the starboard side in a location approved by the Redwood City Fire Department. The riser <br /> shall be fitted with one (1) 5-inch Storz coupling and cap with a slow-opening valve. The <br /> valve shall be operated from the fire control panel or manually from the deck. <br /> 3.1212 D A riser, minimum 3-inch diameter, shall be provided port and starboard in <br /> locations approved by The Redwood City Fire Department. Each riser shall be fitted with a <br /> ball valve. Two (2) monitors (Copperhead) with stream shapers with solid bore stacked tips <br /> (sized-2, 1.75, 1.5, 1.25 inch).Storage/hose cabinets will be located next to the risers. <br /> 3.12.12 E A foam porportioner or educator with variable percentage shall be provided for <br /> each pump with a hose long enough to reach the deck and foam container, five (5) to fifty- <br /> five (55) gallons. <br /> 3.13 Paintin� and Label Plates: <br /> 3.13.1 The exterior topsides of the hull and cabin/pilothouse shall be unpainted finished <br /> aluminum. The contractor shall install The Redwood City Fire Seal on the cabin/pilothouse <br /> sides. <br /> 3.13.2 The satin finish is that utilized on United States Coast Guard 47-foot motor lifeboats, <br /> (Glass Bead Blast) and is a finish with a surface profile not exceeding 1.0 mil, as measured <br /> by Testex Press-O-Film Replica Tape (Course 0.8-2 mils), and spherically shaped <br /> indentations with a diameter less than 02 mm as measured by a optical comparator such as a <br /> Fowler 7X comparator(Gardner catalog no. MA-52-665-001) with a#7 reticle (Gardner <br /> catalog no. MA-52-667-007). <br /> 14 <br />
