Presentation: Library Presentation —Alex Schernig, Vice President, Redwood <br /> City Public Library Board <br /> Mr. Schernig, Library Board Vice President shared with the Council what he believes are <br /> the Library's core services (presentation on file). He also noted that their Strategic Plan is <br /> online. One Council Member mentioned the monthly Library Director's report and its value. <br /> Council Member Foust thanked Council Member Pierce and Vice Mayor Aguirre for their <br /> work in recruiting her to fundraise for the Library Foundation. She found that to be the <br /> most fulfilling volunteer work she has done. Council appreciated the work of the Board and <br /> Library Director. <br /> 6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Agenda item 6.1.E was pulled for discussion. Mayor Ira invited the speakers to address <br /> Council on the matter. <br /> Public Comment <br /> John Silver said that as a former Council Member, Mayor, and Planning Commissioner of <br /> Portola Valley, he understands the work involved and that any public official deserves <br /> thanks. He said he came to represent the Peninsula Democratic Coalition (PDC) and <br /> presented a resolution opposing the Cargill development. He opined that some projects <br /> are not worth evaluating. <br /> Mayor Ira said that the Council has decided to go forward with the Environmental Impact <br /> Report process. <br /> Karen Keefer, a Redwood City resident, said that she appreciates the Council going <br /> through the process. She has attended various meetings in regards to the salt ponds <br /> development. She is retired from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and wants <br /> to bring a compassionate point of view. She will be attending the next ten Council <br /> Meetings and expressing her views on topics such as: property loss, water use, filling in <br /> the bay, levies, flooding, unstable mud, housing construction, traffic congestions, water <br /> use, and what is smart growth. <br /> Zorina Matanilis, a resident of Redwood City, said she is a counselor at Woodside High <br /> School, and has taught English there for ten years. She asked Council to consider <br /> reducing the $320 charge she received to have her water turned on in her new home on <br /> New Year's Eve. She asked Council to consider this amount and waive the fine. <br /> M/S FousUAguirre to approve the Consent Calendar except for agenda item 6.1. E and <br /> include minor edits to the minutes. Motion carried unanimously by electronic vote. <br /> These edits included: specifying on page seven that the comment about modemized <br /> language on taxes was for the business license tax.
