i <br /> A. Proclamation: August 3�d National Night Out in Redwood City— Ken Fafjean, <br /> Police Officer <br /> Mayor Ira spoke about this event as a great way to keep Redwood City safe. Officer <br /> Faljean thanked the City for this opportunity and congratulated the community on getting <br /> involved to make this a reality. <br /> Mayor Ira then presented a surprise proclamation to Roy C. Abrams, Interim City Attorney <br /> for his seven months of dedicated service. Mr. Abrams thanked the Council, adding <br /> comments about his experience in Redwood City and working with the Council. Various <br /> Council Members thanked Mr. Abrams for his expertise and dedication. <br /> Interim City Attorney Abrams reported that at the end of the Closed Session Council <br /> unanimously (with Vice Mayor Aguirre absent) approved a settlement document on the <br /> case of Friends of Cordilleras Creek v. Kirk McGowan, City of Redwood City. <br /> 6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> CITY COUNCIL ACTION: Waive reading of the Consent Calendar and approve the <br /> Consent Calendar items. <br /> Anne Jackson, a registered nurse representing CRONA (the Committee for Recognition of <br /> Nursing Achievement) spoke in regards to the Stanford and Packard Children's Hospitals. <br /> She asked Council to interject by requesting that the hospital negotiate to finalize a <br /> contract. Ms. Jackson opined that the hospital has not negotiated with them for several <br /> months and that the issue is mostly about nursing practices not pay. <br /> Eileen Grove representing CRONA shared her thoughts in regards to the Stanford and <br /> Packard Children's Hospitals. She encouraged Council to support the hospital and begin <br /> negotiating with CRONA again. She explained their last meeting was March 30th. Ms. <br /> Grove related that the main issue is to maintain the nurses' status and not pay. <br /> Isabel Sanchez also representing CRONA spoke in regards to the Stanford and Packard <br /> Children's Hospitals, and she noted that she is a resident and homeowner in Redwood <br /> City, and a nurse for more than 26 years. She spoke about her passion in working with <br /> children with cancer and their families. She said that they have 2,700 nurses working <br /> under an expired contract. She asked both elected officials and the public to support <br /> going back to the table for negotiations. <br /> Cherlene Wright, Vice Chair of the Housing and Human Concerns Committee (HHCC), <br /> reported back from the agencies presentations on the 14th. She reported that agencies, <br /> who came to the HHCC meeting, thanked Council for continuing the HSFA (Human <br /> Services Financial Assistance) funding. She mentioned that many positive impacts such <br /> as decreased recidivism and increased response are due to the City's funding.
