6.1.1. - Page 2
o Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County's Eviction Defense and Homelessness
Prevention Legal Services — in particular their Housing Clinic at Fair Oaks
Community Center ($25,000); and
o Peninsula Family Service Food and Nutrition Programs for low income and food
insecure older adults at the Fair Oaks Adult Activity Center ($25,000).
ANALYSIS
The Silicon Valley Community Foundation approved the full $80,000 requested for the
grant. The Grant Agreement for $80,000 for FY 12-13 is with the City of Redwood City
as the lead agency for this grant.
Grant agreements are needed to re-allocate funds from the Silicon Valley Community
Foundation Grant to Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County and Peninsula Family
Service.
In both cases, the agencies are already providing the services included in the grant.
Being able to facilitate this collaborative proposal is particularly significant in that Legal
Aid Society is not receiving any other funds from the City of Redwood City in FY 12-13
for their weekly Fair Oaks Community Center housing clinic. We were able to secure
more funding than either partner organization had secured in the previous Silicon Valley
Community Foundation Safety Net Request for Proposal round.
With the Fair Oaks Community Center serving as lead agency for the project, our
$80,000 grant represents the third highest grant amount awarded amongst the 19 San
Mateo County Agencies that were approved for Safety Net Funds.
ALTERNATIVES
Council could instruct staff to modify grant agreements or to allocate funds to Legal Aid
Society of San Mateo County and Peninsula Family Service without executing any grant
agreements.
If the City does not allocate funds as stipulated by original proposal and by the Silicon
Valley Community Foundation grant agreement to Legal Aid Society of San Mateo
County and Peninsula Family Service, the City would be obligated to inform the
community foundation that the grant funds cannot be expended for the purpose
described in the proposal and would possibly be required to return those funds to the
Silicon Valley Community Foundation.
FISCAL IMPACT
Revenues and expenditures for the $80,000 grant will be included as a mid-year budget
adjustment for Fiscal Year 2012-2013.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
N/A
