6.1.F. - Page 1 <br /> RE PO RT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the Cit Mana er <br /> October 8, 2012 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Award of Contract — Fire Station No. 9 HVAC Replacement <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Approve, by motion, the contract documents and award the standard form contract for <br /> the Fire Station No. 9 HVAC Replacement Project to S&H Construction, Inc. of Fremont, <br /> for their responsive and responsible low base bid of $142,500 and authorize the City <br /> Manager to increase the contract amount, if necessary, up to 10% of the amount <br /> awarded. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> Fire Station No. 9 was constructed in 1987; the three rooftop HVAC units have reached <br /> the end of their useful lives and need replacing. Encon Engineering, a Mechanical <br /> Engineering consultant, prepared plans and specifications to replace the units. <br /> ANALYSIS <br /> The project includes three rooftop mounted units, modification of the existing ducting <br /> system, and installation of zone dampers to better control and improve energy savings. <br /> The City has applied to PG&E for Energy Rebates for this project and is awaiting <br /> PG&E's review and consideration. <br /> Five (5) bids were received at the bid opening on September 5, 2012 and are <br /> summarized in the table below. <br /> Bidder Total Bid <br /> S & H Construction -- Fremont $142,500.00 <br /> Pullman Construction -- Middleton $167,000.00 <br /> Beals Martin -- Redwood City $212,404.00 <br /> Cold Craft, Inc. -- Campbell $246,800.00 <br /> Cal-Pacific -- Pacifica $277,972.00 <br /> Engineer's Estimate $145,000.00 <br /> Recommended Bidder: S & H Construction <br />
