6.1.C. - Page 2
ALTERNATIVES
1. Direct staff to solicit individual price quotes on an as-needed basis. This
alternative could leave the City's system vulnerable in the event of unexpected
pump failure.
2. Direct staff to solicit similar services from other vendors; however, other vendors
would still need to purchase the Flygt submersible pumps from Xylem Water
Solutions USA, Inc. This is because Xylem Water Solutions USA, Inc. is the
authorized distributor of Flygt submersible pumps. As a result, the other vendor
would need to allow time for shipment of the pumps from Xylem that could
increase the amount of time from when the pump is pulled and then returned to
the system. Finally, the City could pay an additional markup on the Flygt
submersible pumps since they are being resold by the other vendor.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds for services are contained in the Wastewater Section's repair and maintenance
expenses account (686-65152-41) and the Sewer Fund Capital Projects, Pumps and
Controls Replacement Program account (689-75073-94).
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The action proposed in this report are considered Categorically Exempt pursuant to
Section 15301 (Class 1) of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines.
Class 1, "Existing Facilities", allows for maintenance and repair of existing facilities
involving negligible or no expansion of use of the existing facilities. Therefore, this
project is exempt from the provisions of CEQA.

TERENCE KYAW
ASSISTANT PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR

BILL EKERN
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
"
ROBERT B.
