7.A. - Page 10
Attachment 2 - Summary of Community Feedback
Farm Hill Boulevard Street Improvement Pilot Project
• Farm Hill/Jefferson work fine as they are today
o Shouldn't slow down traffic on a major arterial into the city
o Street is so steep, people don't bike on it
o The number of people walking and riding bikes do not warrant these changes
• Proposed changes will make conditions worse or not achieve desired goals
o Reducing the number of travel lanes will create a steady stream of cars, such
that turning off a side street onto Farm Hill or backing out of a driveway will be
impossible
o Reckless drivers will use the two-way turn lanes to pass slower cars and/or
tailgate people who are driving the speed limit
o Project won't reduce speeds due to the steep grades
• Project is a bad idea, but like that it's a pilot
• Project is a much needed improvement
o Makes Farm Hill more friendly and accessible to pedestrians and cyclists. The
three-lane cross section makes it much easier for people to cross
o Look forward to having bike lanes
o Project will make driving on the road more pleasant and safe
o Project will improve the community
o Will be more comfortable walking with kids
• Residents on Farm Hill/Jefferson will be greatly affected by the changes—some see
this as a positive, some as a negative
• Bike lane design should reflect topography
o Putting buffers between bike lane and parking/gutter will improve visibility of
people riding bikes, expose them to less roadway debris, and prevent dooring
collisions
o On streets with this grade, bike lanes should be well separated from traffic
• Alternative solutions to address speeding
o Increase police enforcement
o Install speed feedback signs
o Install stop signs at more intersections
o Install additional warning/speed limit signage
o Install speed humps
• Alternative solutions to facilitate street crossings
o Install traffic signals at more intersections
o Install stop signs at more intersections
