5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> A. Recognition: San Mateo County Economic Development Association <br /> (SAMCEDA) - the Green Innovator Award of Excellence for 2012 Award <br /> Winner -Andy White, Chief Executive Officer of Trilliant <br /> Mayor Aguirre asked Council Member Foust and Mr. Andy White to join her at the <br /> podium where he was presented with a certificate of recognition. Mr. White expressed <br /> his pride in his company and acknowledged the many employees from Redwood City <br /> that believe in improving our world, and he thanked everyone for the support. He said <br /> he is proud to be here and is now a resident of Redwood City himself. He thanked <br /> SAMCEDA for the honor of the award received. <br /> B. Presentation: Caltrain Budget Update — Jayme Ackemann, <br /> Government Affairs Officer, SamTrans, CalTrain, San Mateo County <br /> Transportation Authority <br /> Ms. Ackemann made a presentation to Council on the SamTrans budget and the need <br /> for dedicated funding to restore CalTrain to financial stability (presentation on file). She <br /> also addressed a recently adopted Bay Area Memorandum of Understanding to <br /> modernize CalTrain. She noted they had 20-months of ridership increase and <br /> proceeded to explain the expenses and revenues of this agency. She shared the <br /> proposed budget for consideration of its Board in June. She shared the member <br /> agencies' contributions during the last year and other details related to funding options. <br /> Being considered are a Sales Tax, TOT (Transient Occupancy Tax), VLF (Vehicle <br /> License Fees) and a Gas Tax. Ms. Ackemann covered the blended approach. <br /> One Council Member thanked CalTrain for the presentation and he inquired about <br /> freight trains. The presenter confirmed these would be part of the 10% remaining that <br /> would not be electrified but the vast majority would be electrified. Mayor Aguirre <br /> thanked Ms. Ackemann for her presentation and said it serves the community and <br /> Council to have a status on this important matter. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Mayor Aguirre noted that the Council will be hearing a report on the SaltWorks project, <br /> but they will not be taking any action on this matter since the applicant withdrew the <br /> application. She requested everyone be treated with respect, that there be no clapping, <br /> booing, and there are many sides and many views on this and so she asked for restraint <br /> and civility. <br /> James Lee, with Occupy Redwood City, spoke about his perception of negative <br /> marketing in Redwood City by Fabrizio, McLaughlin &Associates, Inc. a Virginia based <br /> company that is polling Redwood City and asking residents about the Occupy <br /> movement. He advised people to ask questions when being surveyed, such as who is <br /> funding them.
