There were no comments. <br /> M/S Seybert/Ira close the Public Hearing. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote. <br /> City Clerk Vonderlinden reported 31 protest letters were received. Mayor Aguirre asked <br /> about the number of notices sent out and Mr. Ezell said that 26,000 were sent out to <br /> both property owners and tenants. <br /> M/S Seybert/Ira to introduce the ordinance. <br /> One Council Member noted that the city is a little behind on the capital improvements, <br /> and while this sounds like a big number, this is a valuable investment in the future. He <br /> does not want to be faced with crisis and not have funds to address these. He said that <br /> both systems are extremely old and capital improvements are a key component. Mayor <br /> Aguirre thanked Council Members Foust, Ira, and Seybert for serving on this committee <br /> and looking into these important issues. <br /> Motion carried by unanimous electronic vote. Public Hearing and Second Reading of Ordinance to Promote <br /> Sustainability by Prohibiting Retail Food Vendors in Redwood City <br /> from Using Polystyrene-Based Disposable Food Service Containers. <br /> (305) <br /> Mr. Smith, noted that at the April 9 meeting, the Council introduced an ordinance to <br /> initiate this action and tonight with this recommendation the Council will be banning the <br /> use of polystyrene from food services in our community. He opined this action will have <br /> various benefits and there will be a coordinated effort between the City and the County <br /> to inform the community. He noted the ordinance will be effective January 1, 2013. He <br /> also introduced Mr. Dean Peterson, Environmental Health Director with the County of <br /> San Mateo. One Council Member inquired about a letter received from the California <br /> Restaurant Association and a plan to have better ways to dispose of littering and <br /> education on how to improve it. Mr. Smith confirmed that was going to be part of the <br /> Action Plan. Other Council Members asked other questions. <br /> Mayor Aguirre opened the Public Hearing. <br /> Public Comment <br /> Josh Sonnenfeld, speaking on behalf of Save the Bay, expressed their thanks to City <br /> Council for moving forward on this. He said the Redwood Creek and other waterways <br /> suffer from pollution and commented favorably on San Mateo County's ordinance.
