5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> A. Proclamation - In Honor of Alpio Barbara - Chris Beth, Parks, <br /> Recreation, and Community Services Director <br /> Mayor Aguirre met Mr. Barbara and Mr. Beth at the podium. Mr. Chris Beth thanked Mr. <br /> Barbara for not only organizing special programs like the "Poker Run" event but also for <br /> his support to the youth of Redwood City and the downtown community events. He was <br /> particularly recognized for his recent large donation of$68,000 to be split between the <br /> PAL (Police Activities League) program, the Sheriff's League, and After School <br /> programs. Mr. Barbara thanked the Council for the recognition and said this event <br /> began 8 years ago and he thanked the Co-Chair of the event Erin Niemeyer and Chris <br /> Beth and JR Gamez, Redwood City Police Chief as well as the Sheriff s Office. He <br /> noted that they received an additional $1,000 today and he recognized DPR <br /> construction for its unwavering commitment. He provided the breakdown of how the <br /> funds will be divided up. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> There was no public comment. <br /> Mayor Aguirre said she was going to speak on item 6.1 C, 6.1 E and 6.1 F and she <br /> recused herself on 6.1 B. <br /> M/S Seybert/Bain to approve the Consent Calendar except 6.1 B. Motion carried 6-0 <br /> with Council Member Foust absent. <br /> Mayor Aguirre then addressed Consent Calendar items 6.1 C. 6.1 D. and 6.1 F. She <br /> made positive comments about these three items and how partnerships with the County <br /> and the schools attest to the goal of working together and this is a real model. She also <br /> noted that this is one of a kind boat that is customized for Redwood City. She is excited <br /> about this. She noted the additional Farmer's Market brings the number up to six <br /> farmers markets in Redwood City. One Council Member said that this needs to be <br /> monitored carefully because the intent is not to over-saturate the community. He does <br /> believe it is a positive thing but he believes it needs to be monitored by the City <br /> Manager. <br /> Mayor Aguirre recused herself on 6.1 B because she is on the Board of the Service <br /> League. MayorAguirre left the dais. <br /> M/S Ira/Seybert to approve 6.1 B. Motion carried 5-0 with Mayor Aguirre recused and <br /> Council Member Foust absent. <br /> MayorAguirre rejoins the dais. <br /> 1.
