that it will be important to connect this area to the rest of Redwood City and plan for that
bridging.
Another Council Member wanted the opportunities and plans to be realistic and
grounded in the realm of compatibility. This Council Member also noted that the Port of
Redwood City is part of the equation and this exemplifies that there are varied
components that have to be considered. This Council Member said that Federal and
State Authorities also need to be brought into the loop early on the process. Vice Mayor
Gee noted this is not a linear process and there will be side trips but the purpose needs
to be moved along. He believes that it is a process and it will evolve as it progresses.
Public Comment
Tania Sole, President of Redwood Creek Floating Community Association, expressed
interest in engaging all parties on the plan into the next century. She wants to
participate with the entire community to enjoy the area and plan the area.
Lee Callister, resident living on Redwood Creek in Docktown, expressed appreciation
for this series of discussions on the Inner Harbor as a wonderful opportunity to satisfy
the needs of the landowners and the City, and to create a water gateway for the public.
He spoke in favor of community involvement as many made a considerable investment
with their floating homes and they welcome the opportunity to be engaged in the
process.
Nancy Radcliffe, a Planning Commissioner and resident, spoke about the Downtown
Precise Plan and the Downtown Task Force. She commented on how a group of 15
people shared their vision of what downtown should look like and urged Council to
follow in those footsteps and create a task force to this end.
James Jones, a resident close to the center of this area owns a floating home,
expressed excitement with this process. He invited anyone to come by and check it out,
and opined that it is a tremendous jewel for the Precise Plan. He spoke in favor of
people talking and working together with debates, round tables, facilitators, and the
importance of the process for stakeholders without separating key from primary
stakeholders. He has a challenge with that characterization.
Doug Karlson, representing BAIC (Bair Island Aquatic Center) on Maple Street works to
promote and expand human-powered recreation on the bay, said this area is the best
place to do it. He expressed excitement in being able to participate, values their
relationship with the City, and they look forward to a strong outcome.
Mayor Aguirre clarified that Council does not intend to place a different value on key
versus primary stakeholders.
David Meallum spoke about cleaning up the Inner Harbor and noted that the creek is
about 20-feet under the concrete outside City Hall, so the creek is not far.
