Council Member Foust encouraged those in audience and at home to attend if they <br /> have never attended a naturalization oath ceremony. She related how she had <br /> attended one in Los Angeles and opined that it was amazing and reminded her of all the <br /> reasons why she loves living here. She thanked the Mayor and Council Member Pierce <br /> for being a part of this event. <br /> Levi Brinkerhoff said that he is a former flight engineer for Pan Am and United Airlines <br /> and as result, he has a lot of experience with valves and plumbing systems. He is <br /> concerned about the backflow prevention programs, asked the Utilities Committee to <br /> take further public input, and opined there is a need for a task force on backflow, and if <br /> there is one, he wants be on it. <br /> Mayor Aguirre said the City Manager would get back to him on this matter. <br /> Dennis McBride, trustee of the Redwood City School Board, thanked Council for their <br /> support on Measure W and said his motto is that "no one is luckier than us." He <br /> complimented various City Department Heads, and Council for its help and support in <br /> various ways and for being professional, helpful and competent. <br /> Gary Petrini addressed neighbors in Redwood City and San Mateo County welcoming <br /> everyone back after a two month hiatus and stating there is a lot of work to do and he <br /> expressed his support of the City Council. <br /> M/S Pierce/Seybert to approve all items except 6.1 F. Motion carried unanimously by <br /> electronic vote. <br /> Comments on Item 6.1 F <br /> Council Member Pierce spoke about this item and she asked the City Manager to <br /> address the matter of the cross connection. Mr. Bill Ekern, Director of Community <br /> Development, noted this is a mandate from the State and staff is working to find the <br /> correct technology and looking at various solutions. Mr. Ekern noted that staff is <br /> working with the community and the State to get an amnesty and further evaluate the <br /> issue of cross connection. One Council Member noted that the Utilities Committee is <br /> trying to work with legislators to consider the types of devices used in other states for <br /> possible use in California. The Council Member who pulled the item wanted the City to <br /> continue keeping in touch with the community for possible additional options. <br /> Ted Greenwald expressed thanks for the opportunity to speak and echoed Mr. <br /> Brinkerhoff s earlier comments that a Task Force be formed and further public comment <br /> be collected regarding backflow prevention. He has a well that is not nor likely will be <br /> connected to City water, opined there is no threat as it is now, and spoke against the <br /> finro options of either having to connect to City water or destroying it as costly, <br /> unnecessary, and not smart in the event of a drought.
