'72 � V <br /> RESOLUTION ENDORSI�IG THE FORMATION OF THE SAN MATEO <br /> COUNTY TRANSIT DISTRICT, AP1D URGING SUPPORT THEREOF <br /> WHEREAS, the State of California has authorized the formation <br /> of the San Mateo County Transit District, subject to a formation <br /> election to be held within the County of San Mateo (Chap. 502 , <br /> 1974 Stats. ) ; and <br /> WHEREAS , the aforesaid formation election will appear as <br /> "County Measure A" on the local ballot for the election to be <br /> held in November, 1974; and <br /> WHEREAS, the need for a transit district serving the County <br /> has been established through a comprehensive study by the County <br /> of San Mateo, and after deliberation by the State Legislature; and <br /> WHEREAS, County Measure A, in providing for the formation <br /> of the San Mateo County Transit District, would provide, among <br /> other matters, that the District would be governed by a nine-member <br /> board (three, each, of which members would be appointed by the <br /> Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, the City Selection <br /> Committee for the County, and the aforesaid six members) , that <br /> no interconnection shall be made into fixed right-of-way facilities <br /> of the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District without the <br /> approval of the voters of the District, that a property tax may <br /> not be levied in the District until approved by the voters of the <br /> District, that the Board of Directors of the District may adopt <br /> a retail transactions and use tax to provide financing for the <br /> District, if necessary, which tax would provide funds in addition <br /> to those provided under the State Transportation Development Act, <br /> and that the passage of bond issue proposals for capital improvements <br /> of the District would require the approval of 60 per cent of the <br /> electors; and <br /> ti� �,e � `_;; <br /> «� � <br /> � <br />
