COMPOSTING: Manufacturing a Product with the Customer in Mind

BFI's integrated green waste recycling program has ceased to be a waste handling
program. BFI views the implementation as would any other manufacturer of
products. We source our raw materials to meet our specifications, and we
manufacture the products to a customers specifications. Sales and marketing
provide quality products with technical information to customers. They work hand-in-
hand to develop new products to add value for the customer. The only difference:
BFI works closely with the supplier of raw materials, residents and landscapers, to
ensure that the sepa~t, ion and collection process generates the required feedstock.

Feedstock Quality
Before any processing of yard waste takes place the level of non-organic
contaminants such as glass, plastic and metal must be at levels under .05% in order
to manufacture high grade product suited for a variety of applications. The
combination of community education, rejection of yard waste through tagging, visual
inspection and picking during collection, and finally manual removal of contaminants
at a picking station will ensure that the majority of feedstock meets quality standards.
Material which cannot meet the .05% standard will often still be accommodated in
a lower grade market such as commercial erosion control mulch, daily cover and
land reclamation.

Manufacturin.q Flexibility
While a sample manufacturing process has been described in the technical section
of this proposal, the proposed Ox Mountain facility is designed and equipped to allow
for the manufacture of product to various specifications. In particular, BFI Organics
will mcjularly customize products to meet customer specifications with requirements
for the following parameters:

[] Particle Size - Variable screen sizes allow many options

[] Moisture - Addition of water to windrows with water truck and
automatic watedng system allows complete control of moisture

[] pH - Agricultural amendments are used to adjust pH
