BFI Organics - Irvine
"BFI OrganiCS", in Santa Ana, California, is a recent acquisition from the Wilbur-Ellis
Company and member of the BFI family. This company composts and bags product
for market throughout Califomia. Over $2 million worth of lawn and garden products
dedved in part from recycled organic wastes are sold each year in bags at the retail
level. BFI's latest product "Organo Recycle" was introduced in August of 1993 and
has sold over 1,000,000 bags as of August 1, 1994. Because of our recent
acquisition of the Wilbur-Ellis Coast Soil Care Division, we have contacts with large
regional nursery supply companies as well as smaller local garden supply fi~,fs and
farmers. This guarantees finished compost movement and acceptance in the
marketplace.

In California our major mass merchandiser customers include Wall Mart, Home
Depot, and Nurseryland.

Pioneer Southern, Inc. {PSi)
Dudng 1994 BFI acquired the second largest manufacturer and distributer of bagged
and bulk horticultural products in the nation. Pioneer Southern, Inc., is the world's
largest producer of qualitY decorative bark products accompanied by a complete line
of high grade soil products. At nine locations east of the Rockies, PSi processes,
composts, bags and markets organic waste materials. PSI will have an important
role in California in 1995 as we link our production facilities to the national markets.

Bay Area Product Marketin.q
'In the San Francisco Bay Area BFI has already developed a significant sales effort
and customer base for compost. The Bay Area sales effort has moved 40,000 tons
of product and developed an initial dedicated customer base of about 20 in 4
counties. Until 3 months ago, all product distributed was mUlch and uncomposted
soil amendment or boiler fuel. Compost customers are growing rapidly now that the
first batches of product manufactured at the San Jose Facility are available.

Regional / Corporate Support
Supporting marketing efforts at the local level are our BFI Organics Western Region
and National staff. Linkages with national accounts, market analysis, marketing
expertise and information dissemination based on the latest knowledge at other
facilities throughout the country helps bdng power to local sales'efforts.
