8.C. - Page 3
December 4, 2012
Honorable Name, Title
Agency
Address
City, State, Zip
Subject: Participation on Blue Ribbon Task Force to Consider Changes to South Bayside Waste
Management Authority (SBWMA) Governance Structure and Board Composition
Dear
:
As you know, there have been informal discussions among some city managers and elected
officials of SBWMA's member agencies about the desire to explore possible changes to
SBWMA's governance structure and board composition.
Earlier this year, the SBWMA board asked member agencies to provide written confirmation of
their desire to examine such changes. Instead of the governance structure being examined by
the current governing board, my colleagues and I on the City Council of Redwood City agree
that a full exploration of this question is best accomplished through the formation of a Blue
Ribbon Task Force made up of elected officials from member agencies.
I am writing to ask if a member of your elected body would like to participate on this Task Force
by appointing an elected official to serve. Even if your agency responded to SBWMA's earlier
request this year on governance changes, I would request to hear from your jurisdiction on the
question of Task Force participation as well. You may want to advise your city manager if you'd
like to participate on the Task Force, and ask he/she to notify Redwood City's City Manager Bob
Bell by the first week in February.
A fully representative Task Force will provide the best opportunity for the variety of interests
related to this issue to be fully identified and explored, and will result in the maximum number of
quality ideas and options for the group to consider.
Thank you for your consideration, and we look forward to hearing from your jurisdiction as to
your preference for serving on the Blue Ribbon Task Force.
Sincerely,
Alicia Aguirre
Mayor
C: Members, City Council
Bob Bell, City Manager
