6.1.D. - Page 1
RE PO RT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the Cit Mana er
December 3, 2012
SUBJECT
Award of Contract — Police Facility Gun Range Upgrades
RECOMMENDATION
Approve by motion, the Agreement for the Police Facility Gun Range Upgrades to
Nicole's Work, Inc. of San Francisco, CA for low bid of $171,357 and authorize the City
Manager to increase the contract amount, if necessary, up to 10% of the amount
awarded.
BACKGROUND
The Police Facility was constructed in 1994 and is in need of improvements. Presently
only hand guns can be used in the range and the bullet retrieval system is outdated. To
provide additional revenue options, the gun range will be upgraded so that rifles can be
used in the in-door facility. There will be additional savings associated with reducing the
frequency of removing the spent lead from the gun range by replacing the bullet trap.
The upgrades and improvements give other law enforcement agencies more options to
rent the facility. It is projected that the modifications will bring in an additional
$13,000/year in rental fees.
ANALYSIS
The City received eight bids with Nicole's Work being the lowest responsive and
responsible bidder. The bids are summarized below.
Bidder Base Bid
Nicole's Work. —San Francisco $171,357
CRW Industries, Inc. - Scotts Valley $188,960
Southwest Construction & Property Management — San $209,936
Bruno
R.C. Benson & Sons-Mountain View $213,395
Southland Construction-Pleasanton $235,366
Paris Construction-Santa Clara $256,362
All Trusty Builders-San Francisco $351,700
Cal Pacific-Pacifica $428,000
Architect's Estimate $120,000
