Consensus was reached to utilize the protected drop off option, shaving a foot off the
one lane, putting the extra foot on the sidewalk, and consideration of pulling trees out
into the parking zone.
8. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST
A. Legislation (information only) - This sub - section involves possible discussion of
City Position on Proposed Legislation described in the League of California Cities
Priority Focus Bulletin Nos. 48 -2003 and 49 -2003. Council may direct staff to act
on positions taken by Council. (Copies of League of California Cities Priority Focus
available in City Clerk's Department.)
B. Council Member Hartnett — stated his concerns with the theatre project and the
particular impact on Theatre Way (closed portion of Middlefield Road) that has no
street or sidewalk. He stated his belief that the businesses on that street have
been let down with the City not having properly planned for the situation. He further
stated that we should have and should be doing more to make it more attractive
and easier for people to walk in that area, making it more aesthetically inviting.
Although a meeting with the Downtown Business Group (DBG) was set for the
next evening to discuss overall issues, he asked that specific things be done for
that street such as for a period of time grants be given to use to market as they
see fit. Mayor Ira stated that he would bring this topic up at the DBG meeting and
bring an oral report and options back to the Council on January 12.
C. Council Member Howard — announced and invited the community to the Measure
A workshop presented by the San Mateo County Transportation Authority to be
hosted in the Redwood City Council Chamber on Saturday, January 24 from 10-
noon. Projects accomplished so far and the re- authorization proposal planned to
be on the November 2004 ballot. There are several Redwood City projects to be
discussed and voted upon that day with the results to be provided to the
Transportation Authority for consideration.
D. Vice Mayor Pierce — asked Council if any Member would be able to represent the
city on the San Mateo County Sesquicentennial committee. The next meeting is on
January 7 at 9:30 a.m.
E. Vice Mayor Pierce — asked about "Yes on Measure 2 " and whether Council had
endorsed this as yet. City Manager Everett stated that a report for Council
consideration would be presented on January 26.
F. Mayor Ira — stated that the Budget Strategy session on January 12 would be for
budget planning, reviewing past priorities, and priorities of Council related to
potential VLF options.
JOINT MEETING MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL AND REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY/
JOINT STUDY SESSION with PLANNING COMMISSION JANUARY 5, 2004
& ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE PAGE 4
MINUTES Book No. 60
Page No. 133
