IJ
-
work area. Samples will be taken during removal and decontamination operations. Samples
will collected in areas most vulnerable to containment breach and fiber contamination such
as in the clean room, at the negative air exhaust, at critical baniers, and in occupied areaS
near the work area, Sample analysis will be conducted by Phase Contrast Microscopy
NIOSH Method 7400.
In accordance with the requested scope of services, ProTech's technician will NOT be on
site full-time. ProTech will not provide comprehensive oversight of the project and will not
be able to verify, or attest to the work perfonned by the contractor during the shift
3.2 Area Air sample Analysis
Phase contrast microscopy (PCM): PCM sample analysis will be conducted according to
the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) method 7400. NIOSH
7400 requires that all fibers with certain physical dimensions be counted so that cellulose,
mineral woo] and fiberglass are possible interferences. In sample analysis according to
NIOSH 7400, 100 viewing fields (approximately 0.2% of the total filter area for a 25mm
fiJter) are examined at 400X magnification by Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM). The
number of fields observed are extrapolated to the total filter area, and divided by the volume
of air sampJed to yield results in tenDS of fibers per cubic centimeters of air (F/CC).
3.3 Progress Work Area Inspections
ProTech's technician wjlJ accompany the contractor's competent person during daily job site
inspections to verify proper seal of the polyethylene containment systems, sufficient
negative air pressure, and proper postage of warning signs. Work areas will be examined
and work procedures reviewed with the site supervisor to verify the contractor's compliance
with regulatory standards and accepted industry practices. Any observed gross deficiencies
will be reported to the client for remedial action and cOlTection.
SECTION 4 - POST ABATEMENT MONITORING:
4.1 Final (Work Completion) Inspections
Following asbestos removal and work area decontamination, visual inspections wjJ be
conducted inside of each abatement work area. ProTech wíll perform a complete visual
inspection of each work area to detect residual or overJooked asbestos debris on wans and
horizontal surfaces in and around the work areas.
4.2 Final Air Sample CoIlection
After the work areas are found to be visua!ly clean, clearance air samples will be taken in the
work area. A minimum of three (3) will be collected in each contiguous work area.
4.3 Final Ai.- sample Analysis:
Final air sample will be analyzed by Transmission electron microscopy (TEM). TEM
analysis will be performed on an electron microscope at 16,000 to 20,000 X magnification.
A!I particles with a length to width aspect ratio of 5 to 1 and a length greater than or equal to
0.5 microns will be subjected to detailed morphological and select area diffraction analysis.
Energy dispersion X-ray analysis will be used to confirm the chemical composition of
asbestos and other structures as needed. After determining whether or not the structures are
asbestos and what type of asbestos they are, analysis will continue until either 50 asbestos
structures are found or until a minimum analytical sensitivity of 0.005 structures per cubic
centimeter (s/cc) is obtained.
Propm;al: Asbestos Abatement Monitorin~ Prop No. 158-03,?k
City of RWC f MSC Warehouse Page 3
-
