6.1.B. - Page 2
The low bid of $339,500 submitted by Blocka Construction, Inc. is incrementally lower
than the engineer's estimate of $340,000. Blocka Construction, Inc. has successfully
completed similar projects in the past and is a qualified contractor. Based on the bids
received, staff believes that the low bid is reasonable and recommends awarding the
contract to Blocka Construction, Inc.
Construction is expected to begin in January 2013 and will conclude in June 2013. The
city will provide notice to all residents that might be affected by the construction.
Additionally, the contractor is obligated to provide notice to area residents within two
weeks prior to start of work. Signage that contains project information will be posted at
the construction sites and construction updates will be available on the city's website.
ALTERNATIVES
Council may choose not to award the contract and direct staff to redesign and/or rebid
the project. Continued deterioration of the electrical equipment will increase
replacement costs and may interrupt service and cause potential sanitary sewer
overflow.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds for the general work of this project were approved and appropriated in Sewer
Fund Capital Projects -- Pump Station No. 10 Improvements Project, which has a
balance of $524,400.32, as of September 30, 2012.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
As the lead agency, City of Redwood City has determined that the Sanitary Sewer
Pump Station 10 Improvements Project meets the California Environmental Quality Act
(CEQA) exemption criteria as set forth in Section 15301 (Existing Facilities) and Section
15302 (Replacement or Reconstruction) of the CEQA Regulations.
t

JIMMY TAN, P.E.
SENIOR CIVIL ENGINEER
LJ
BILL EKERN
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
"
ROBERT B.
