7.B. - Page 132
Redwood City Chapter 8.Impacts Found Not to be Significant
As described in the 2007 FEIR (page 8-1),the construction and operation of the Costco warehouse
and fueling center would not contribute to the housing stock or residential population base within
the City.Similarly, construction of the proposed modifications would result in a temporary increase
in construction-related job opportunities in the local area. The opportunities provided by
construction of the proposed modifications would not likely result in household relocation by
construction workers to the project vicinity because these jobs would be temporary and of very
short duration.Additionally, construction workers can be expected to be drawn from the
construction labor force already existing in the surrounding community. It is not likely that
construction workers would relocate their place of residency as a consequence of the temporary
employment offered by construction of the proposed modifications.Additionally, operation of the
proposed modifications would not require any new employees. Therefore,no new impact on
population or housing would occur with implementation of the proposed modifications.
As described in the 2007 FEIR (Appendix A,page 16),there are no housing units or households
onsite that would be displaced and the proposed modifications would not displace households or
residents in the project area.Similarly,no replacement housing is needed for the proposed
modifications. Therefore,no new impact on population or housing would occur with
implementation of the proposed modifications.
Cultural Resources
As described in the 2007 FEIR (page 8-1),no historical resources are located on or immediately
adjacent to the project site. The original Costco warehouse and associated parking lot were built in
the early 1980s and are not considered historical resources. The conditions of the project area have
not significantly changed since the 2007 analysis was conducted, and the proposed modifications
would be implemented entirely within the existing Costco warehouse, fueling center, and parking lot
site. Therefore,no new impacts on historical resources would occur with implementation of the
proposed modifications.
As described in the 2007 FEIR(page 8-1),the project site is currently developed. No archaeological
resources, paleontological resources,or unique geologic features are known to exist on or
immediately adjacent to the project site. The project site was not historically used as a cemetery.
The site is currently developed with an existing asphalt parking lot and ornamental landscaping.
Given the disturbed character of the site,no archaeological resources are expected to be present
onsite. The maximum depth of excavation would be approximately 2 feet, which is less than that
which occurred as part of construction of the project in 2009. Grading and groundwork proposed for
the proposed modifications would not exceed the depth of previous excavations associated with the
project site. The conditions of the project area have not significantly changed since the 2007 analysis
was conducted. Therefore,no new impact would result from development of the proposed
modifications.
Addendum No.2 to the Environmental Impact Report for September 2012
the Redwood City Costco Wholesale Project 8-3 ICF 00154.12
