6.1.A. - Page 2 <br /> 5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> A. Proclamation: In Recognition of Human Trafficking Prevention Month - <br /> Betty Ann Boeving, Executive Director of the Bay Area Anti-Trafficking <br /> Coalition <br /> Mayor Aguirre and Council Member Seybert presented the proclamation to Ms. <br /> Boeving. Council Member Seybert noted that board member Ruby Jacques, her <br /> husband Leo, and several students from the Sequoia High School Stopping Slavery <br /> Club were in attendance. He thanked them all for their work in helping to stop this <br /> current tragedy that also impacts Redwood City. Ms. Boeving said this is the third <br /> annual National Awareness Month and they work to prevent the exploitation of people <br /> here in the Bay Area as well as globally. Mayor Aguirre thanked her and said there <br /> was a recent news story about a group of people being freed due to the efforts of <br /> organizations like theirs. <br /> B. Presentation: HIP Housing Calendars - Kate Comfort Harr and <br /> Recognition of Charlie Leake, third grader from Redwood City - Alicia C. <br /> Aguirre, Mayor <br /> Ms. Comfort Harr, Executive Director of HIP Housing, spoke about their work in helping <br /> approximately 1,400 people find much needed affordable housing of which <br /> approximately 400 are Redwood City residents. Each year they have an annual contest <br /> where they invite local school children to submit drawings for a calendar on what <br /> housing or their homes mean to them, and Charlie Leake was the only one from <br /> Redwood City submitting a drawing for the month of June. Mr. Leake read the sentence <br /> he wrote which explains his drawing for the calendar. The Mayor presented him with a <br /> certificate of recognition. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Mayor Aguirre said that the Pete's Harbor item has been postponed to May 6t" once <br /> Council votes on it tonight. This is a result of an agreement between the parties involved <br /> in the matter. The Mayor said that public comment would be taken tonight in connection <br /> with the continuance to the May date. <br /> Public Comment <br /> Dr. David Hattery spoke about the history of Redwood City's port and maritime center <br /> and questioned how the city can allow this marina to be shut down and designated as <br /> anything other than a marina. He spoke in favor of retaining maritime access and <br /> reaping all the benefits for this community. <br /> Isak Lerner said he was a recent resident since 2011, but was recently forced to leave, <br /> without a specific place (to live) until he finds an alternative residence.
