As such, results for both the
peak period (which is a 3 hour period for the weekday and a 4 hour period for the weekend) and
the peak hour are presented. Table 5 shows the existing queues observed at the fuel station.
Table 5 Existing Redwood City Costco Gasoline Facility Queues
Weekday PM Queue* Weekend Midday Queue*
Peak Period Peak Hour Peak Period Peak Hour
Average Queue 28 24 31 32
Minimum Queue 15 15 16 18
Maximum Queue 51 40 56 48
95th Percentile Queue 45 36 52 42
*Queue is total number of vehicles waiting in line at the pumps(not including the vehicles actually at the pumps)
**Peak Period represents summary data from the entire time period when data was collected(Weekday 4—7 PM,Weekend
11 AM—3 PM;peak hour is summary data only for highest hour of trip generation within the peak period
As shown in Table 5,queues at the fuel station were longer during the Saturday midday peak period
than during the weekday p.m. peak period. The average queue during the Saturday midday peak
hour was 8 vehicles longer than during the weekday p.m. peak hour. The maximum queue observed
during any time period was 56 vehicles which occurred during the weekend midday time period.
Peak period video recordings were used to identify average and peak wait times for vehicles in the
fuel station queue under existing conditions. Table 6 summarizes the wait times observed at the
existing fuel station during the weekday p.m.and weekend midday peak periods and peak hours.
Table 6 Existing Redwood City Costco Gasoline Facility Wait Times
Weekday PM Wait Time* Saturday Midday Wait Time*
Peak Period** Peak Hour** Peak Period Peak Hour
Average WaitTime 4:41 3:29 7:34 8:22
Minimum WaitTime 0:16 0:16 3:09 3:09
Maximum WaitTime 11:10 8:35 14:16 13:26
95th Percentile WaitTime 9:23 6:37 11:51 11:55
*Wait time is the total time(min:sec)a vehicle waited in queue from the time they pulled up to and stopped at the back of
queue to the time they pulled up to the pump
**Peak Period represents summary data from the entire time period when data was collected(Weekday 4—7 PM,Weekend
11 AM—3 PM;peak hour is summary data only for highest hour of trip generation within the peak period
Kittelson&Associates,Inc.
