RE7.A. - Page 243 Expansion Project#:11637.0
Auyus<<v,LV1L Page 31
Evaluation and documentation of how the existing activity levels at the Redwood City site
(warehouse and fuel station) compare to other Costco locations where trip generation is
known (particularly those locations that have 5 island fuel stations)
Evaluation and documentation of the range of trip generation seen at other Costco
Gasoline facilities including those with 5 islands and those with sales volume equal to or
greater than that at Redwood City
Preparation of a range of trip generation estimates for the fuel station expansion based on
five approaches:
o Approach #1 - Using the trip generation observed at other 4 and 5 island Costco
Gasoline facilities with equivalent or greater activity and sales than that of
Redwood City,
o Approach #2 - Using the highest trip generation observed at any of the other 5
island Costco Gasoline facilities in the continental United States,
o Approach #3 - Using before and after data from other Costco Gasoline expansion
sites to develop a percent increase in trip generation based on that seen at those
locations, and
o Approach #4 - Assuming a straight linear increase in trips proportionate to the
increase in fueling positions (i.e.,a 66%increase in trips)
o Approach #5 - Using the industry standard trip generation rates in the ITE Trip
Generation manual
Evaluation of the trip generation range resultant from the above approaches to determine
a reasonable, yet conservative, estimate to use for the Redwood City fuel station
expansion
These steps and the resultant findings for each are outlined in the following sections.
Kittelson&Associates,Inc.
