Redwood City Costco Gasoline Expansion ProjE 7.A. - Page 262
August 20,2012 ruyev
data has been collected (including sites with significantly more activity than that
of Redwood City)
While the trip generation estimates at the lower end of the range of the remaining
approaches (430 total weekday p.m. peak hour trips and 440 total weekday p.m. peak
hour trips) are likely reasonable, to be conservative we recommend that the trip
generation estimate developed using the highest observed trip generation at an existing 5
island location
o While this is likely an overestimation of the trip generation impacts given the
relative activity at that site compared with Redwood City, it will ensure the
analysis is conservative and extremely defensible.
The recommended trip generation estimate for the proposed Redwood City Costco
Gasoline expansion project equates to an increase of 100 additional total trip ends and 20
additional net new trip ends over what the site is currently generating during the
weekday p.m.peak hour.
Five Island (20 Fueling Positionl Costco Gasoline Operations
Data collected at the two existing 5 island (20 fueling position) Costco Gasoline facilities
in the continental U.S. shows that even though one of those locations generates about 100
more total trip ends during the weekday p.m.peak hour,it has shorter average, maximum,
and 95th percentile queues than those that occur at the Redwood City location under
existing conditions.
It also has significantly shorter vehicle wait times and less vehicle idling than the
Redwood City location does currently.
We trust this memorandum provides sufficient preliminary transportation data for Costco to
continue discussions with the City on the proposed project and development review scoping.
