Redwood City Costco Gasoline Expansion ProjE 7.A. - Page 426 August4,2011 ruye ii The daily fuel station activity profile (Figure 5) shows a higher number of transactions during the weekend peak hours than the weekday peak hours although the fuel station is open for fewer hours on the weekend. The daily activity profile also shows that activity at the fuel station is consistent through most hours of the day and that the fuel station does not demonstrate typical peaking characteristics that are often found on roadways and intersections. The profile also confirms the fact that the Costco Gasoline fuel station is an ancillary use to the overall Costco warehouse and that it draws a lot of its activity from people who are shopping at the warehouse and who stop in to purchase gas as part of their primary warehouse trip. Approximately 80% of the daily fuel station activity occurs during the hours when the warehouse is also open (between 10 AM and 8 PM on weekdays and 10 AM and 6 PM on weekends). EXISTING FUEL STATION QUEUING & OPERATIONS Queuing and operations at the existing Redwood City Costco Gasoline fuel station were evaluated to establish a baseline for comparison with the proposed five-island fuel station. Video data was collected at the fuel station during the weekday p.m. peak period (4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.) and the Saturday midday peak period (11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) in May 2011. Peak and average queuing was identified for both the peak periods and the peak hour observed. Table 5 shows the existing queues observed at the fuel station. The average queue during the Saturday midday peak hour was 8 vehicles longer than during the weekday p.m. peak hour.
