Proclamation - Recognizing the Sequoia Yacht Club for being <br /> awarded the PCYA trophy for the best Youth Sailing Program on the West <br /> Coast - Peter McCormick, Junior Sailing, Kate Humphreys, Staff Commodore, <br /> and Peter Blackmore, Commodore - Alicia C. Aguirre, Mayor <br /> Mayor Aguirre recognized this organization and thanked them for the honor they have <br /> shined on Redwood City. Mr. Peter McCormick addressed the Council and recognized <br /> other members from the organization for making this possible. He also thanked the Port <br /> of Redwood for being an exemplary partner. Mr. Giari, Redwood City Port Director, <br /> thanked the Sequoia Yacht Club for being a great organization and neighbor. <br /> B. Proclamation - Celebrating the 52nd Anniversary of the Peace Corps <br /> and pronouncing the week of February 24 through March 2, 2013, as Peace <br /> Corps Week in Redwood City - Jenna Pierce and Tim Shek, Returned Peace <br /> Corps Volunteers (RPCV) - Alicia C. Aguirre, Mayor <br /> Mayor Aguirre read some historical facts about this organization. Ms. Pierce and Mr. <br /> Shek thanked the Council for this honor on behalf of the Peace Corps and spoke a little <br /> about their experience while abroad doing humanitarian work. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Chwinn Cosgrove and Sylvia Scarpa, of the Asian Art Foundation, spoke in support of <br /> Asian art and culture. They presented two videos on Shen Yun Performing Arts that are <br /> available online at Shen Yun trailer. <br /> David McCallum, representing Redwood Creek Preservation Trust, spoke about last <br /> weekend's creek clean up, "Romancing the Creek" and their hope to continue with <br /> these efforts. He commented that they transformed the creek area in Docktown into a <br /> beautiful place, and he expressed hope for a green marina with new management. <br /> Rousiana Yasoslavsky, co-president of Redwood City Library Foundation, expressed <br /> thanks to the City Council and the community for their support, shared that former <br /> Redwood City Mayors, Jack Greenalch and Georgie La Berge, were the founding <br /> members in 1998, and that former Mayor and current Council Member Foust and Mayor <br /> Aguirre have also served on their board. She also shared some of their <br /> accomplishments in raising funds and supporting various programs for the Library and <br /> its collections. <br /> Georgie LaBerge, Executive Director of the Redwood City Library Foundation, shared <br /> detailed information about their 15th anniversary celebration at Sparky's Hot Rod <br /> Garage in San Carlos on March 3rd from 9 to 10 p.m. All proceeds will support Project <br /> Read's Kids in Partnership (KIP) program.
