Redwood City General Plan
6.1.F. - Page 16 2012 Annual Report
(Redwood City Ordinance 2348) became effective May 2010 and is currently being
implemented. All new residential proj ects must demonstrate compliance with LEED or
GreenPoint minimum standards. All new nonresidential proj ects and additions of 1,000 square
feet or greater must submit a LEED-NC checklist prepared by a LEED AP demonstrating that
the proj ect meets minimum level. In addition, the State of California's Title 24 Energy Code
requirements also came into effect on January 1, 2011. No building permits are issued to any
applicable proj ect in Redwood City unless the application can demonstrate continued compliance
with the California Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Title 24, Part 6) of the California
Building Code.
There are several highlighted accomplishments to the Natural Resources Element: 1) The
Redwood Creek Trail is underway with the first segment being constructed as part of the 333
Main Street apartment complex. The second segment under Hwy 101, connecting the Inner
Harbor Area with Downtown, is in the design phase. Both segments should begin construction
later this year. 2) The City has amended Chapter 35, Tree Preservation, which incorporates new
findings supporting tree preservation on public and private property and clarifies that abutting
property owners are responsible for care of trees in the City right-of-way. 3) The City has
consolidated the tree permitting process into Planning and Housing in order to streamline and
better enforce tree preservation.
11 Page
