Redwood City Creneral Plan <br /> 2oi2�6.1.F. - Page 15 <br /> Public Safety Element <br /> Adoption: October 11, 2010 <br /> Amendments: <br /> Resolution 1506: Adoption of the New General Plan (October 11, 2010) <br /> Summary: The Public Safety Element addresses public safety issues that affect Redwood City, <br /> and promotes prevention, public education, and emergency preparedness as the approaches that <br /> will allow the community to minimize risks to life and property in the event of a disaster. The <br /> Public Safety Element contains the following Chapters: Atmosphere and Climate, Hazards <br /> Management, and Noise. With regard to Atmosphere and Climate, the City is actively working <br /> with BAAQMD to properly identify sensitive receptors and mitigation measures. As discussed <br /> under the Natural Resources Element below, the City has adopted and implemented a Green <br /> Building Ordinance, which reduces building energy use and related greenhouse gas emissions. <br /> With regard to flooding hazards and stormwater improvements, a Redwood Creek wall repair <br /> proj ect is under design and approximately 75 percent complete. Multiple additional <br /> implementation measures are ongoing, as outlined in the 2012 Annual General Plan Progress <br /> Report. <br /> There are several highlighted accomplishments to the Public Safety Element: 1) New <br /> technologies have been explored and implemented with regard to Atmosphere and Climate by <br /> purchasing hybrid fleet vehicles and implemented electric Vehicle Charging Stations at various <br /> locations throughout the City with more planned in the future. 2) The City has been utilizing the <br /> latest GIS information in order to evaluate geological hazard areas and updating flood <br /> information and maps for existing and new development with regard to Hazards Management. 3) <br /> The City's Police Department has assigned School Resource Officers to the High schools and <br /> middle schools, expanded the Truancy Abatement Program and stepped up its gang awareness <br /> and prevention classes. <br /> Natural Resources Element <br /> Adoption: October 11, 2010 <br /> Amendments: <br /> Resolution 1506: Adoption of the New General Plan (October 11, 2010) <br /> Summary: The Natural Resources Element focuses on preserving protecting conserving re- <br /> using and efficiently using Redwood City's natural resources. The Natural Resources Element <br /> contains the following Chapters: Water Resources, Energy Conservation, Natural Habitat and <br /> Open Space, and Urban Forest. <br /> One of the primary accomplishments with regard to Natural Resources was the adoption and <br /> implementation of a Green Building Ordinance.
