The building has a complex shape as the result of several additions. The original building
appears to have been stucco-clad and rectangular shaped with a low pitched, side gable
roof and a brick chimney at the rear. Over the years, additions were made to the front and
south side that nearly encapsulate the original building. These additions have a variety of
wood siding and shingles and either flat roofs or steeply pitched gables and cross gables.
See Photo Appendix.
Historic Sanborn maps do not show the building. San Mateo County Assessor records
show that the building was constructed in 1933 and that additions or repairs were made in
1937, 1953, 1959, 1960, 1962, 1964 (twice), 1965, 1966, and 1967. The building has no
obvious architecture style due to multiple additions. The designer or architect is not
known. The building does not appear to be architecturally significant.
 / ell,„ m`I m ,, ,d I J /Im Pd 11P . ii'(ii; ,ir/%'My.... i ,- :iipl Iglp lilr' ' /( :"!.
 u a m,,
i
  r!
f'r' `i%q , / 'i+ i ' oi
f/ Yl;,, i I"

, , <
l %%i J/; ,,, i

i
1 ( ,
, - ,
 ; ' , ,` ,,,
/ l fi r y y
F i.,`n :a: 't;. . eaa 4iiii , ,
, .
' `/ %j,. , ...j :. i if
F
f i, 92 , t; 11 9
  r I I IVu y!
// , '  I,j `Mi; il  %;{   / /i
 / , I i i % "/i
' k ir
 %/
f r' . j J!7Jy).,`
; ( n fy
y III I 4
!: l,i; 1'. i' 'I -''W, i 'i'!
/ J 1
°, p ` ;. ,j;. If,
,,, / ///
J , 1 /f%l %/
 :;i
 ,°,
iitie j' a, . ji
` f% % '
. m
  ,
* ,,; , U `/,,,,
   rp,,
iry 1 J i /%,/ r
e hY u' j ` ; 9i;  ' x wn ;

i i, /
1948 aerial photo showing 2826 El Camino Real with two gable roofs (Google Earth).
Usage History
The building was used continuously as a restaurant. It is not listed in the 1931/32 and
1933 city directories and directories are not available for 1934-1936. It was first
mentioned in the 1937 city directory as a restaurant. (Part of the building may have been
used as a residence, in addition to being a restaurant, but historical information is not
available). The restaurant was owned by Peter Besozzi from 1937 to at least 1950. City
directories are not available for the years 1951 and 1952 but in 1953 the building was
vacant. From 1954 to 1958, the building was called Eugene's Restaurant and from 1958
to 1964 the restaurant was called the Arena. In 1965 it became the L'Auberge restaurant
which continued in business until 1985. The restaurant was named "Chiefs"between
3
