4.13 POPULATION AND HOUSING
4.13.1 Existing Setting
According to California Department of Finance 2010 census data, Redwood City's population for
2010 was 76,815 persons. In 2010,there were 27,957 households with 2.69 persons per household.
' The Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG)projects the population for Redwood City to
be 92,400 in 2030.28 As of 2008,the City had approximately 52,000 jobs (with an additional 5,700
jobs located within the City's sphere of influence) and an active labor force of approximately 43,600
people.
The jobs/housing balance is the relationship between the number of housing units required as a result
of local jobs and the number of residential units available in the City. This relationship is quantified
by the jobs/employed resident ratio. When the ratio reaches 1.0, a balance is struck between the
supply of local housing and local jobs. The jobs/employed resident ratio is determined by dividing
the number of local jobs by the number of employed residents that can be housed in local housing.
Redwood City currently has a higher number of jobs than employed residents (approximately 132
jobs per employed resident) and is projected to continue to have a higher number of jobs than
employed residents with full build out under the current General Plan.
4.13.2 Environmental Checklist and Discussion of Impacts
POPULATION AND HOUSING
Less Than
Potentially Significant Less Than
Significant With Significant No Impact Beneficial Information
Impact Mitigation Impact Pf Source(s)
Incorporated
Would the project:
1) Induce substantial population growth 1,2,3,13
in an area, either directly(for
example,by proposing new homes
and businesses)or indirectly(for
example,through extension of roads
or other infrastructure)?
2) Displace substantial numbers of 1,2,3
esting housing,necessitating the
construction of replacement
housing elsewhere?
3) Displace substantial numbers of 1,2,3
people,necessitating the construction
of replacement housing elsewhere?
State of California Department of Finances.
