6.3.C. - Page 1 <br /> RE PO RT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the Cit Mana er <br /> June 3, 2013 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Calling the General Municipal Election of the City of Redwood City and consolidating it <br /> with the Consolidated Municipal, School and Special District Election to be held on <br /> Tuesday November 5, 2013 <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Take actions relating to the General Municipal Election, as follows: <br /> 1. Adopt Resolutions as follows: <br /> a. Calling for the holding of a General Municipal Election to be held on <br /> November 5, 2013, for the election of municipal officers; <br /> b. Requesting the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo to <br /> Consolidate a General Municipal Election to be held on Tuesday, November 5, <br /> 2013, with the Consolidated Municipal, School and Special District election and <br /> authorizing the City Clerk to execute services agreement; <br /> c. Adopting Regulations for Candidate Statements; <br /> 2. By motion, require candidates to make deposit in the amount of $564.91. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> The provisions of Section 4 of the Charter of Redwood City (Ordinance No. 2078), <br /> require that General Municipal Elections be held in November of odd-numbered years <br /> on the first Tuesday after the first Monday. The California Elections Code provides for <br /> consolidation of local elections, ordered by one of the jurisdictions calling an election on <br /> the same date in the same or overlapping territory. Redwood City has consolidated <br /> previous elections with accurate, efficient and cost-effective results and it is <br /> recommended that the City Council order consolidation for November 5, 2013 General <br /> Municipal Election. <br /> ANALYSIS <br /> The San Mateo County Elections Office provides certain election services for the City of <br /> Redwood City and other agencies and districts by the execution of a contract. <br /> Therefore, The City Council is requested to call the General Municipal Election and to <br /> consolidate it with the Consolidated Municipal, School and Special District election to be <br /> held on the same day for the purpose of electing three (three) City Council Members for <br /> the full term of four (4) years each. <br /> A related matter is adopting regulations pertaining to candidate statements and how the <br /> cost of printing and handling of candidate statements will be addressed. The statement <br />
