6.1.A. - Page 8
C. City Manager (Oral) Update —
Dr. Bell said that he wanted to point out that on the Consent Calendar there were two
items that were beneficial to the community and they were the Safe Routes to School
and the grant from Silicon Valley. Dr. Bell noted the creek clean-up which will be on
April 20, 2013 and he noted that on Earth Day April 22, 2013 staff will bring back to
Council the Environmental Action Plan.
Council Member Bain noted that Woodside Road is looking a lot better now that the City
is maintaining it and that is encouraging.
Council Member Foust shared that a one page summary page was created on the San
Mateo County sales tax and she appreciates that. She also wanted to take this
opportunity to use this part of the meeting to recognize exceptional members of the
community. She expressed her thanks to Chaplain Loggie as the first example of such.
This Council Member said that his words give her a sense of gratitude and faith in the
job that the Council does.
Vice Mayor Gee noted the SamTrans Service Plan and he encouraged the public to
read it and look at the three public route changes, so that they could make comments.
He also sent a shot out to Redwood Shores Egg hunt extravaganza. He said it was a
great event and very popular.
Council Member Pierce valued the experience of Mayors on Wheels, and they need
volunteer drivers. She said they serve thousands of ineals throughout the county. She
further noted that Mayor Aguirre and herself were at the Congestion Management
meeting today, and they worked on a draft strategy for transportation investment. She
was happy to see Redwood City staff working with C/CAG staff, tracking goals and
marrying transportation investment to the housing inventory.
Mayor Aguirre announced that the Plan Bay Area will be at Foster City on April 29 and
public comment is welcomed to look at the plan. She also announced that she was part
of the Fair Oaks Youth Initiative last Saturday. She said that these young people meet
on Saturdays, and it gives her hope seeing youth that uses their time off to learn and
grow. She thanked the Council for making this one of its strategic initiatives.
10. ADJOURN — M/S Gee/Ira to adjourn the meeting at 8:09 p.m. in memory of Jim
Seybert and Jaime Mateo.
