Pr7.A. - Page 13 tes
The City of Redwood City staff has recommended a three-year increase of the basic sanitary sewer
service charges. The City's sewer utility is self-supporting, funded primarily by sewer service charges. The
recommended sewer rate increases are primarily due to increased costs for the City's share of operations,
maintenance, and capital improvements at the South Bayside System Authority (SBSA) regional wastewater
treatment plant, which processes and disposes of the City sewage. Additionally, the City's sewer rates
support the operation and maintenance costs, including labor, replacement and improvements (capital
projects) for the City's sewer collection system and the cost of support provided by other City departments.
The proposed dates for the sewer rate increases are: August 1, 2013, July 1, 2014 and July 1, 2015.
Residential Sewer Customers
• Increase minimum monthly residential Basic Service Charge from $57.88 to $63.09 effective
August 1, 2013; from $63.09 to $68.77 effective July 1, 2014; and from $68.77 to $74.95 effective
July 1, 2015.
Commercial Sewer Customers
Commercial sewer rates vary by customer class, or type of business, as shown below. Charges are
calculated by multiplying each customer's rate by their metered water use during the billing period.
Commercial customers pay a minimum monthly charge equal to the residential Basic Service Charge.
The proposed increases are as follows:
• Increase minimum monthly commercial Basic Service Charge, for all user categories, from $57.88 to
$63.09 effective August 1, 2013; from $63.09 to $68.77 effective July 1, 2014; and from $68.77 to
$74.95 effective July 1, 2015.
• The following table shows sewer rates proposed for commercial customers based on the rate applicable
to each customer class multiplied by the amount of inetered water use per billing period, with the
minimum monthly charge of $63.09, $68.77, and $74.95 respectively:
. ,
. - . . - -
. -- .- .

. ... -. ... -. ... -.
.- . .- . .- . .-
Institutional / Public $4.26 $4.64 $5.06 $5.52
Retail / Commercial $4.75 $5.18 $5.65 $6.15
Hos itals $4.75 $5.18 $5.65 $6.15
Restaurants $11.53 $12.57 $13.70 $14.93
Supermarkets $11.53 $12.57 $13.70 $14.93
Industrial $3.79 $4.14 $4.51 $4.91
Public Hearing on Proposed Rates
The City Council for the City of Redwood City hereby gives notice of a public hearing to be held at its meeting on
Monday, June 10, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall, 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California. At this hearing,
the City Council will consider public comment as well as written protests by property owners or customers
responsible for payment of the charges against the proposed increase in water and sewer rates. If written
protests represent a majority of affected parcels, the City Council will not increase the rates as a matter of law.
If you wish to file a written protest, please send a letter in a sealed envelope addressed to Water and Sewer
Rates, City Clerk, City of Redwood City, 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA 94063. Your letter must
identify the real property you own or occupy by service address or assessor's parcel number. Your letter must
be legibly signed by any one of the current property owners or rate-paying customers on record. Only one
protest per parcel will be counted. The City of Redwood City must receive your letter at City Hall by 5:00 p.m. on
Monday, June 10, 2013 or it must be presented at the City Council meeting at 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 10, 2013
prior to the close of the public hearing on the matter.
y 'oa}eW ueg
ZE9 oN }ivaaad £90b6 t/ `}i poonnpay LBBIPaPUnu
Q b/ d (ennpeoa8 OOb6 eluaollleo h
a6e}sod S uoisini4 saoM iqnd poonnpa
41S 1bSbd }uauaaeda4 uauadoana4 (;iunuauao
